We have a new board member volunteer! Dawn Young-McDaniel #VeteranRescue

Dawn Young-McDaniel
• Georgia
• Double-Major obtaining Bachelors Degrees in Psychology and Sociology, specializing in
PTSD, Crisis.
• FEMA Crisis Response certified.
• Serve on Crisis Response Teams (now include Comfort Animals to assist in crisis counseling
during disasters, both natural and manmade).
• I was a full-time Counselor prior to being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.
• After the diagnosis of MS, I became a Medical-Psychological-Crisis Technical Adviser for movies and tv shows; and became a member of SAG/AFTRA after Director of the film Selma, Ava DuVernay, wrote a small role for me in a Medical scene since I was the production’s
• Avid Animal Rescue Activist, including raising awareness to end Animal Abuse, Cruelty, Neglect, Hoarding, Puppy Mills and Dog Fighting.
• Due to being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at a Disability Level in 2014, my main goal in life is to match Veterans and People with Disabilities with Service & Therapy Animals, with
animals coming from Animal Rescue Shelters.
• I credit my late father, Dr. Dennis Young, for my unwavering purpose of incorporating animals into the lives of our Veterans with PTSD and other Disabilities, as well as in the lives of people
with disabilities. My Dad was a psychologist and trained a Service Dog to better help Vets, law enforcement, kids bereavement camps and hospitals. The dog my Dad trained, his 4-legged best friend “Diesel”, was the only Service Dog in the United States certified to pull carts for Veterans and people with disabilities to participate in parades, 5ks or to just outside of a hospital for fresh air.
My Dad passed away in 2016; Diesel passed away two months later from a “Grieved, Broken Heart”.
•I’ve chosen to dedicate my life to carrying his torch.
I am in close proximity of a military base and counties, even my own, have kill-shelters and ironically, after a year of research, I wrote a program for Veterans & people with Disabilities that
would match them with Service Animals that would come from kill-shelters. Through contacts, the program was endorsed by an official from the White House Administration and it was sent to
the Secretary of Veteran Affairs. I say “ironically” because my vision was the same as this organization without even knowing if
this incredible Service Animal LLC.
I understand having PTSD from cruelty of the world & about a disability that changes life. It’s a struggle to find your purpose. It was our rescue pets that helped me find a purpose and rejoin
family, friends and community.
I’m honored to be a part of this extremely important organization.
•22 Veteran suicides a day is unacceptable. We’re given gifts for a reason. Mine is that even with MS, I can combine my education, experience on Crisis Response Teams and experience
as someone who’s life was changed by an illness beyond my control and save lives of both people and animals in need.
•I’ve always been the girl who gets turtles out of roadways, carries dog and cat food in my car and never leaves an animal behind.

Still in need of a Trademark attorney that will go to court in Texas, Arizona, Arkansas, and Georgia.  Florida headquarters. Maybe if I social media blast that Veteran Rescue is a registered trademark of Animal Rescue & Veteran Support Services, Corp enough times people will stop stealing it.

Ground Breaking on Facility Begins

We break ground on our property for our new facility next weekend, July 22, 2017. We are clearing, taping, fencing, building sheds with sleeping lofts, cabins in just 2 days.

We are meeting with Governor’s Office, VA, and hopefully our Senator there as well on Monday July 24th.

We are accepting donations from the Girl Scouts on Sat July 29th.

We are meeting with our co-host for the 5k race event that weekend too.

Veteran Rescue is a very small nonprofit with very limited funds incoming via CFC 19270.

We are in need of handy volunteers that can work with construction type tools, help put up walls of wood, mix concrete and more. We are in need of items on our donations page to be donated and delivered to us.

The very basic cost of this relocation and ground breaking is $15,000. This includes food for people and animals, bills due, tools needed, and supplies to be purchased.

We operate nationwide and have our Headquarters in Florida relocating to Kentucky.  Please donate, whether it’s in kind needs on our list or cash, or your body volunteering onsite in Kentucky. Please let us know if you’re going to be there so we can expect you. We sincerely appreciate all that our supporters do for us in our time of need.

Veteran Rescue can not do it ALONE, We need the community to step up and support us whether donating in kind items such as pet food and other supplies, or holding fundraisers on our behalf, or even introducing us to local movers and shakers.

It takes a community of supportive people working with the nonprofit. Please donate and share this with your network.

We have high hopes for obtaining our ranch.

Animal Rescue & Veteran Support Services (DBA Veteran Rescue) is a 501c3 nonprofit in Lake Mary, FL. Since 2011, Veteran Rescue has helped both veterans and animals alike, pairing them together to combat PTSD, stress, overwork and to give a second chance to animals living on the street.

Veteran Rescue’s original goal was to always have a ranch for veterans to use, for equine therapy, to relax, refocus and re-energize themselves. Now, five years after its inception, Veteran Rescue has the opportunity to obtain a ranch instead of partnering up and renting out pieces of ranches, like it has been done in the past. Never before has our main goal of having a ranch for our nonprofit been closer in our sight.

This is where you come in. We need your help to get this ranch.

With the ranch, Veteran Rescue can be 100% operational. Our main goal has always been to assist veterans overcome the challenges they may face coming back from deployment or dealing with PTSD. With this ranch, we can reach out further and help pair human and animal together – to heal, to form companionship and to rejuvenate the spirit.

To learn more about Veteran Rescue, please see http://veteranrescue.org

The Need: We receive calls on a daily basis and referrals weekly from other organizations. Our current facility is way too small to accommodate them all.

Fact: Some areas such as Tampa, Fl have higher than average suicide numbers. The popular number of 22 is no longer accurate as of Feb 2013. See our videos about PTSD on our Youtube page: https://www.youtube.com/veteranrescue

With an estimated 24 US Veterans take their lives every day! These women and men need our nation’s help. Many of our Veterans are negatively impacted by post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury and depression. Transitioning out of the military is difficult for many Veterans; resulting in drug/alcohol abuse, relationship issues, violence, unemployment and homelessness. About 25% of those who are homeless on any given day are Veterans.

Veterans may find comfort and companionship in have a dog and/or using equine therapy; in knowing they have the job skills necessary to gain and maintain a job; and knowing they have support of a community and the nation.

The Goal: Purchase an Equine Therapy Ranch where Service Dogs will be trained with their handlers, Veterans and Family members can go on Retreats and Heal. Rescued Animals will get a new start on life including Horses for our programs.

The Solution: Businesses and People Nationwide pledge to match funds and Donate Today to help Veteran Rescue Raise the Funds needed to purchase the ranch and immediately begin helping a 1000 Veterans and animals instead of dozens for the exact same cost per year!

What is PTSD?

According to Military Pathways, it is estimated that 11-20% of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, 10% of Gulf War Veterans, and 30% of Vietnam Veterans experience PTSD symptoms. Of the general American population 2.2% of the American population, ~ 7.7 million people, may have PTSD symptoms.

Benefits of Equine Therapy:

Can grooming and riding horses foster recovery from mental illness? According to a recent article published in the Psychiatric Times, the answer is “yes”. “Evidence has continued to accumulate; more rigorous controlled studies are being conducted, resulting in the emergence of a significant body of literature supporting the therapeutic value of the human-companion animal interaction.” An article reviewing the benefits of animal-assisted therapy has even appeared in the prestigious Journal of the American Medical Association.

Please share the link to all your follower, friends, family, coworkers. You never know who can donate, even if it’s just $5 a person. Don’t our Veterans deserve better treatment? Don’t the animals in kill shelters or abandoned deserve better? Please help get the word out there.

I see all kinds of money going to dead or dying, why not help the living to succeed not commit suicide or self medicate. We’re not asking for much.

Go Fund Me Information

With this ranch, not only could we house veterans to be rehabilitated, but we could pair them with animals specifically trained to be companion or service animals. This ranch would also serve as a retreat for Veterans, their families and government workers.

Rescue animals and train to provide comfort and therapy. By December, 2017 we will have rescued and trained at least 50 animals; Rescue 20 dogs and 30 horses for therapy. We rescue cats, dogs, and horses. This means we will need farrier services, veterinarian services frequently for shots, spay/neuter, routine care, food, treats, beddings, litter, harnesses, etc.
• Provide therapy and counseling for Veterans. By December, 2017 we will have served 1000 or more Veterans, their family members, government workers, disabled children and battered women all will benefit from my services per ranch at 1 ranch location.
• Provide job training that include apprentice training, job search and interview skills By December, 2017 we will have trained 150 Veterans. Staff needs will be 7 minimum with 15 volunteers for retreats and therapy. Apprenticeship sessions for Veterans. Working with local community builders. Teaching with real life examples and Veterans looking to open their own business.
• Buy my book for more information: http://smile.amazon.com/Helpful-Tips-Type-Bus…/…/ref=sr_1_8…
• Promote awareness about the services to help Veterans make a change in their lives.
• Connect community members with Veterans, by making presentation and developing relationships in the local community, across the state and nation. Travel East Coast, West Coast upon request. To be able to speak at multiple Military Bases and Federal Buildings. Sept through Dec. By December, 2017, we will have made 500 presentations and developed 200 relationships.
• Project Information: When we purchase 100+ acres horse ranch with outbuildings and a home on it we will immediately implement all goals listed above. It will then become a staffing/hiring/obtaining supplies and budget needs appropriately. We will move from a home based operation working with less than 10 Veterans a year face to face to a ranch we’re not paying to rent to use, saving money, time, and staff. Hiring staff will mean dependable certified help. No more waiting lists. There are 2 military Bases interested in working with us as well as the VA and multiple Military Veterans and family members have reached out to me
