Know Your Worth!

Know Your Worth!

I just had to talk about this. I know several of my friends can attest to this as well.

A recent conversation: ” You’re prices are too high!” My vet only charges $20/day to Board in the cages”, I want $10/day for your services. I charge $40/day to have run of the home, frequent playtime and walks through nature’s harvest.

I again go to my competitors and look at their prices. Let’s compare:

Large dog: $25/day for 6 by 8 room, playtime extra, 4 or 5 doggie shots required, extra walks, extra money.

Large Dog: $50/day, 4 or 5 doggies shots required, everything extra, holidays double priced!

Vets offices cages only, $20-60/day, no extras

Me: Run of the home, only Rabies is required by law so that is all I ask for, playtime all day, no charge! Extra walks, no charge! As in this case Once an hour sometimes 3 times an hour as dog is old and has cancer. Home has Oriental carpets and regular carpets to go with tile and wood floors. Cleaning costs for floors included in my prices.

Results: I had already guaranteed a deep discount of $20/day. I stood by that. I did not get the client’s business. That is okay. I know my worth. This was a one time exception. It will not happen again. I give discounts to Military and long term clients.

Know your worth. I don’t take every potential client that comes my way looking for rock bottom prices or even less than going rates. I have won 4 consecutive awards for my quality of service.

I also keep my recommendations on my website. I have multiple client referrals. Google reviews, LinkedIn, and website, and let’s not forget Facebook. I’m looking at joining Angie’s List next.

The reason I tell you this is because if you sacrifice your worth for one person, next thing you know here comes a referral: “Well you did it for them, do it for me.”

Your services are costing you time, money, chemicals, employees, insurance, gas, vehicle repair and much more. Research your competitors and know your worth. The lowest fees on the block does not guarantee you clients. It may in fact guarantee you get none!

I have spoken to may other business owner and this is a frequent complaint of theirs. If this has happened with you and you want to share how you handled it, please comment!

Recently we have been reevaluating our Programs we offer. Should we add more, remove some, put spending caps on them, documentation we ask for, etc.

It was brought home to me quite recently that I can’t help everyone and that by trying to please everyone only drains my limited resources that much quicker.

I have a very unique niche and I should stick to it.

Based on the kinds of requests for help we’ve been receiving, it was decided a cap in place was reasonable and able to help us keep our budget under control.

The kinds of documentation we ask for and receive in order to assist a client is reasonable, legal, and necessary in case of audits. Any non profit should expect to be audited frequently as they grow bigger and handle more and more funds.

As for the programs we offer we are evaluating the Home Repair Project and decided not to add anything more to what we already offer, regardless of whether it’s a good fit for my Mission and Vision.

I can’t stress enough the importance of documenting everything, even people on your Advisory Board. Document every conversation, and suggestion made in case of future malfeasance. Which we’ve already weathered a few times.

People think that because I am woman owned business helping Veterans and animals it is okay to lie to me, try to use me for their own gain, agree to handshake deals only and more.

I have Honor, Integrity, Faith, and I keep my dealings above board and transparent. Much to some people’s dismay.

I always answer any question asked of me in regards to my business. If something is confidential it stays that way.

We are an approved 501c3 Nonprofit. All contributions are 100% Tax Deductible!

An overview: Animal Rescue & Veteran Support Services, Corp (Veteran Rescue ® ) is a 501c3 nonprofit created by Ms. Christi Hubbard (primary owner, founder and CFO) to use animal assisted therapy to assist Veterans in their rehabilitation and reorientation through various services. Since 2011 we have been assisting veterans with home repair projects, rehabilitating rescued animals and paring them together to heal both with plenty of care.

Veteran Rescue programs are here to assist you. We offer several services to assist both Veterans, their families and in pairing them with animals who may also need a helping hand.
Veteran Rescue Programs Available
Equine Therapy
There is magic when man and horse pair up. There’s more than just horseback riding, but a sense of connection. Get connected today and schedule your appointment with us. Be prepared to present your DD214 and Military ID. We’ll need you to fill out a liability waiver and then the magic can happen!
Retreats for Veterans with PTSD
Sometimes, we just need to get away from everything. Retreats for Veterans are projected to be available starting in the summer of 2015 Keep up with Veteran Rescue for the latest news!
Animal Rescues
Man’s best friend sometimes needs a helping hand sometimes. We provide rescues within the limits of availability within our household. Rescued animals are often spayed and neutered as needed, socialized, trained and adopted out.

What a great way to help others out! Wildcat’s Sanctuary and Ranch is offering Free Gift Certificates for Pet Sitting and Dog Walking for qualifying purchases in this fundraiser.

The Importance of Giving

The Importance of giving can best be summed up with it’s all about your generosity. We almost have all of our corporate bills paid off! We are just $2000 short of being in the black this Fiscal Year! How exciting is that! It is thanks to all of you, our supporters who have made this possible!! Our Goal is to be in the black by the end of this July!

We have a Donation Table July 19-20 at Publix (Rinehart and Timacuan)

We have an Auction ending July 19th. http://www.biddingowl.com/Auction/item-detail.cfm?auctionID=1778&ItemID=73527&viewType=1&style=34&font=2&catName=Everything+Else

We have Collectible Coffee Cups for sale to help raise funds. You can buy them from our website http://veteranrescue.org/veteran-rescue-mugs or from Ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/221475532906?ssPageName=STRK%3AMESELX%3AIT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

Running a non profit is hard work keeping all the animals fed and healthy. Repairing the vehicle every time it breaks down. Traveling to promote what you do, who you help and why. We have been operating since 2011 as a 100% tax exempt, tax deductible non profit. We went from being in the red to being very close to being paid off.

We are now shooting for a mortgage to purchase our own facilities instead of borrowing others.

This year is special because the CFC (combined Federal Campaign) opened up to Universal Giving which means if you have my CFC 19270 you can donate to us via your Payroll anywhere in the Country. That alone helps springboard non profits into helping even more people!!
